Our venue is the Tractor Shed Loft at Glensallagh Gardens, near Ballydehob, west Cork. It's a large, open, light-filled space overlooking beautiful organic gardens and the west Cork countryside, with its own kitchen. A beautiful, peaceful and meditative setting in which to start work on your future cookbook.
Times: 10 am – 5pm Saturday, 10am - 4pm Sunday
Parking is a 300m walk (along a country lane) from the venue. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
Lunch, coffee and teas are included both days with options for carnivores and vegetarians but I’m afraid we can’t cater for anyone with really serious allergies. Also, apologies, but as our venue is up a steep, iron staircase it is not wheelchair friendly. On Saturday night, we have secured a table at Restaurant Chestnut, Ballydehob. The restaurant has just won a Michelin star and is in high demand, so this is a real coup! Their fabulous tasting menu is 85€ and we hope you will join us for this exceptional experience if you sign up for the course. Numbers are limited. To book or for more information, please message Trish at Cancellations are non-refundable and we strongly recommend you take out travel/personal insurance.
Accommodation is not included but we're very happy to suggest accommodation nearby and urge you to book early! (The cottage at Glensallagh Gardens sleeps 4 and can be booked here. )
Looking forward to meeting you, Trish. About Me I'm a cookbook author and food writer and recently moved to west Cork after 25 years in France. I've published over 25 books, many award-winning, mostly in French, have hosted TV shows for RTE and BBC NI, written for ELLE, ELLE à Table,The Irish Times, The Guardian, Observer Food Monthly and am currently food editor with the Irish women’s monthly, The Gloss. A few words from past participants.
I've been to a fair few writing courses but was attracted to this because of a personal project and I had never seen anything like it offered before. Trish Deseine is an accomplished food writer with many published books. When someone knows their trade/craft well, there is authenticity. She cuts through vagueness and wooliness to help you get to your goal. She's kind but couples this with a directness which is useful.
Sheeren K, writer and producer. Last July I took part in the "Write your own cookbook with Trish Deseine" workshop. There were 6 of us, some pros, some less pros and me, just an ordinary housewife thinking about compiling some home recipes for my daughters. My book is not written yet, maybe it never will be, but that week with Trish and my companions gave me such confidence that, well, it might be worth publishing! I had a wonderful week, everybody was different and yet so interesting and it was very comfortable to be gently but professionally led by Trish who definitively knows her job as a cook and writer of course but also as a mentor. I loved it! Muriel M. A brilliant few days, learning, laughing and eating! Nicola W, professional photographer, Dublin. Initially, I attended because of the chance to meet a successful food writer and like minded people. To my delight, my very vague, long nagging, privately kept, germ of an idea blossomed into life, thanks to enthusiastic encouragement and nurturing ambience, all carefully curated by Trish. More than that, the weekend was an exceptional experience: a unique combination of authentic Irish food, inspiring surroundings, a beautiful location, and a generous host with unrivalled expertise. Carpe Diem!" John D Mulcahy, former head of Gastronomy Tourism for Failte Ireland, now specializing in research and writing about food and tourism. A truly fantastic event! Diana D, chef and cookbook author, Co. Cork A unique mentoring experience. Trish guided us easily through what could be a tricky area: cookbook publishing! There was a wonderfully supportive group dynamic that Trish chaired gently, allowing space for voices and ideas to flourish. The depth of knowledge around publishing books is huge, only matched by her generosity in sharing what she's knows from her own personal experiences over years of publishing.
